Five phases to stand up Segment (or a Segment-like CDP) as the single source of event data — instrumenting tracking, wiring ads, product analytics, the warehouse, and CRM, then validating, activating, and documenting the result.
Role Authored this implementation plan — phase scoping, task breakdown, and effort estimation across Segment, ad/analytics destinations, and CRM
Each phase builds on the last: scope and accounts first, then the bulk of integration work, followed by validation, activation, and documentation.
Define scope, stakeholders, and destinations. Choose and configure Facebook, Mixpanel (or Amplitude), and Snowflake (or BigQuery); set up Segment account and workspace; map data points to schemas for each destination.
The bulk of the build: Segment tracking code on web/app, event and property mapping via Protocols, and integration setup across Facebook, Mixpanel (or Amplitude), Snowflake (or BigQuery), and a CRM platform (Braze, Salesforce, etc.).
Validate tracking accuracy on web/app, confirm data flows correctly from Segment into each destination, and verify successful, discrepancy-free streaming into the data warehouse.
Put the new data to work: build custom audiences in Facebook, set up engagement reports/dashboards in Mixpanel (or Amplitude), and run initial behavioural queries in Snowflake (or BigQuery).
Document the implementation, integration configurations, and tracking setup; document the CRM integration; and train the team on using Segment, accessing destination data, and interpreting analytics.
A single tracking plan and schema feeds every downstream tool — replacing ad-hoc, per-destination instrumentation with one governed source of event data.
Event mappings and custom audiences for ad targeting and conversion tracking.
Verified event flow and dashboards for product engagement analysis.
Continuous, validated data streaming into the warehouse for ad-hoc analysis.
User data sync and event tracking for lifecycle and retention messaging.
